So the time has come. You have grown your business, you have many properties to maintain – but they are becoming to hard to manage on your own. Now you are in the market to hire a maintenance crew. What are some things to keep in mind when hiring? Here are a few tips:
- Hiring W2 employees is more beneficial and less risk in a lot of ways then hiring them on 1099’s
- Be sure to ask for, and then call their references
- Try having a probation period of 30 days or so. This way you can see how they work before you hire them completely
- Have a testing process. Are you someone to handle plumbing? Find a quiz online just to make sure they at least have a basic knowledge. This can go for any trade
- Also, have realistic expectations. Hiring is one of the hardest parts of owning a business, and can be frustrating if you set your expectations too high
So if you are hiring a maintenance crew, hopefully these few points will help.
