Snow is part of life here in New England. It is not something that can be avoided, but instead should be embraced. But as a building owner, there are some things you should consider.

We have considered a lot about snow in previous blogs, and one of those items is the weight of it. With the last big storm we had, we got more snow than we have in a while.

As a general rule of thumb, snow weighs about one pound for every inch per square foot (on average). So if there is twelve inches of snow – that is twelve pounds of weight for every square foot! That is a lot of weight.

Consider having a professional company remove the snow from your roof. This doesn’t have to be an every day event, just something that happens when we have big snow storms.

Proper snow removal and watching your roof structure in the winter time is the first step in being prepared to handle the snow as a business owner. So watch the weather forecasts, get out your skis, and embrace the snow that we get.
